Below are details for 15 different walks; with options of short, medium, long or very long walks. All walks start in Littondale and all have maps and full detailed instructions provided.

When following one of our walks

  • Plan ahead and be prepared
  • Follow advice and local signs
  • Ensure you have the correct clothing and equipment
  • Take only photos and memories. Leave nothing behind
  • Prevent erosion by avoiding spreading out on paths, particularly during winter or after wet weather
  • The Littondale hay meadows during late spring and early summer are a joy to see. Avoid spreading out and trampling the grass. This is cut and used as winter feed for livestock

EASY: 5 miles and 211 feet of climbing (approx)

Directions: (after heavy rain the ford may not be passable, if this is the case see alternative map for other routes across the river). Take the track at the edge of Park Bottom’s garden and head down the bridleway.

EASY: 6 miles and 291 feet of climbing (approx)

Starting point: Litton

Refreshments: Queens Arms, Litton 

Directions:  Go through Litton village. Just before the last houses in Litton turn left at the sign for bridlepath and head down the hill and across the River Skirfare on the wooden bridge.

Queens Arms - Litton

Litton – Arncliffe

EASY: 4 3⁄4 miles and 202 feet of climbing (approx.)

Starting point: Litton

Refreshments: Falcon Inn, Arncliffe; Queens Arms, Litton 

Directions:  Go down the road past the Queens Arms for approximately 200 metres and take the turning on your right through the small wooden gate and head over the fields.

Litton - Arncliffe – Hawkswick – Ridge

MODERATE: 10 1⁄2 miles and 1,442 feet of climbing (approx.)

Starting point: Litton

Refreshments:  Falcon Inn, Arncliffe; Queens Arms, Litton 

Directions:  Go down the road past the Queens Arms for approx.200 metres take the turning on your right through the small wooden gate and head over the fields. (If the river is not passable, please see map of alternative routes.)

Litton – Nether Hesleden – Foxup

MODERATE: 7 miles and 550 feet of climbing (approx)

Starting point: Litton

Refreshments:  Queens Arms, Litton

Directions:  Take the track at the edge of Park Bottom’s garden and head down the bridleway. Follow the bridleway until meeting the River Skirfare and then turn left and head over the river via the ford.

Arncliffe – Ridge - Hawkswick

MODERATE: 5 1⁄2 miles and 963 feet of climbing (approx)

Starting point: Arncliffe

Refreshments: Falcon Inn, Arncliffe;

Directions:  Start by the church at Arncliffe. Walk on the road towards the river and over the bridge. Immediately over the bridge take the public footpath on your right sign-posted Kettlewell 2 1⁄3 miles.

Arncliffe – Kettlewell - Hawkswick

MODERATE: 6 1⁄4 miles and 1,488 feet of climbing (approx)

Starting point: Arncliffe

Refreshments: Falcon Inn, Arncliffe; Pubs & Cafes in Kettlewell 

Directions:  Starting at the church in Arncliffe. Walk on the road towards the river and over the bridge. Immediately over the bridge take the public footpath on your right signposted Kettlewell 21⁄3 miles.

MODERATE: 7 1⁄2 miles and 718 feet of climbing (approx)

Directions:   Take the turning onto the track at the edge of Park Bottom’s garden and head down the bridleway. Follow the bridleway until meeting the River Skirfare and then turn left and head over the river via the ford.

Firth Fell Walk - Littondale

MODERATE: 7 1⁄4 miles and 1,349 feet of climbing (approx)

Directions: Take the bridleway just passed the Queens Arms signposted Buckden 3 1⁄2 miles. Follow the bridleway through the farmyard and up to the right, take the right hand path through the gate and between the 2 walls.

MODERATE: 10 ¼ miles and 1,433 feet of climbing (approx)

Starting point: Arncliffe

Refreshments: Falcon Inn, Arncliffe 

Directions: Starting in Arncliffe at the Falcon Inn follow the track at the right hand side of the Inn, sign-posted Malham 6 ¾ miles. Go up the track and then take the turning on your right through the small wooden gate, sign-posted Malham 6 ½ miles

HARD: 13 miles and 2,511 feet of climbing (approx)

Directions:  Take the bridleway just after the Queens Arms signposted Buckden 3 1⁄2 miles. Follow the bridleway through the farmyard and up to the right, take the right hand path through the gate and between the 2 walls.

Litton – Fountains Fell – Malham Tarn – Monk’s Path – Arncliffe

HARD: 15 3⁄4 miles and 2,110 feet of climbing (approx)

Starting point: Litton

Directions:  With Queens Arms and Park Bottom behind you go up the road. Just before the last houses in Litton turn left at the sign for bridlepath and head down the hill and across the River Skirfare on the wooden bridge.

HARD: 13 1⁄2 miles and 2,000 feet of climbing (approx)

Directions:  Walk up the road away from Park Bottom and the Queens Arms pub. Just before the last houses in Litton turn left at the sign and head down the hill and across the River Skirfare on the wooden bridge.
